TNH Modern Season 17, Race 1

Our first race of the new season is this Wednesday (March 8th), the Evansville Thunder on the Ohio (San Diego Course). Qualifying starts at 6:30 PST.
Remember we have new starting procedures.
80 mph minimum but have the following changes:
Add in one warning as long as it is less than 2 seconds. Define three DMZ areas on each course where milling is not allowed at any time. A. A circle defined by both corner turns mirrored across the entrance and exit buoys. B. An oval defined by the start/finish line buoy, the buoy just before or after the S/F line, and the two buoys on the backstretch opposite them. i. At SD, this is the island using the lights course markers and the buoy before the S/F line. ii. At Madison, this is the buoy before the S/F line using the lights course. iii. At Detroit, it is the lights course marker and the S/F line buoy. Allow for cutting from the front stretch to the backstretch between the S/F line on the last milling lap so long as you do not enter the DMZ. However, when you cut you must pass two buoys before you have established a lane. -

With two new rookies on the circuit, there were 11 boats for the season opener. Defending champion Jeff Dewalt had a tough call in his first heat and was the victim of a collision in the final to have a disappointing star to the defense of his first title. John Steach piloted the Miss Wazzu to a near perfect day in spite of the new start rules (winning is a rarity for WSU but we will take what we can get). Mickey Washburn is again in second place but positioned well with the next two races away from the SD course.
