The Detroit Hydrofest format will be 3 flights of heats (A,B,C,D), followed by the Consolation Heat and the Final Heat. The Heat races will be 3 laps and the Final Heat will be 5 laps. If we have more then 20 drivers then we will run trailers in the heat races. For the first set of heats lowest Qualifying speed or a new rookie will be the trailer. Then the rest of the sets will be lowest points for the day (or a new rookie) will be the trailer boat. The trailer boat will be determined after the random draw for the heats. So for example if 6 boats are drawn into Heat 2A the lowest points in that heat is the trailer.
Preliminary Heats will have a maximum of 5 boats per heat and 1 trailer if needed. The Consolation heat will have 5 boats. The winner of the Consolation Heat will be the trailer in the Final Heat. The Final Heat will have 6 boats (the 6th boat being the trailer). The trailer must start 5 seconds behind in the final heat.
