HydroSim Alpha v0.5.0.3

Another update, been working on the Mission Bay course some more:
I'm also currently working on scene transitions/loading screens and plan to get course selection/changing done before the next update.
-
Sweet! That looks awesome!
-
Awesome! Really starting to look like Mission bay now, pumped up about how far this game has come and the best part is it's still in its early stages!
Quick question, does it cost you anything to run all the programs affiliated with the game as well as working on the game engine itself and apply updates?
If it does, I would be willing to donate a little if it helps out with the programming costs. If not, then keep doing what your doing! Already got a revolutionary hydroplane game here, very excited for whats to come

Sometime this weekend I’ll try to figure out a Saturday in June that I can host a race. It’s been too long I’m ready for some racing
-
@Mickey I’m out of school on the 11th so any day works for me
-
Is there a Mac friendly version?
-
@PeytonHopp Thanks! There are some costs, the Unity game engine is free, but I have bought some assets from their store that cost money (the water, terrain importer, some other things). And there's also the server that I pay for. All in all, its probably way less than my dad used to spend racing RC hydroplanes.
@TinyBeard I can make a Mac build, however I have no way of testing it. I put one up before, but from the few people that tried it, it sounded like it was too buggy. I can try putting one up again. I don't know what kind of graphics cards come with the Mac, typically they are Laptops, so I'm not completely sure if it will be powerful enough. The game doesn't seem to get as high FPS when running in OpenGL as DirectX (on Windows) from my tests on Linux.
-
Do you have any tips for getting this to run smoother on a standard pc, I’ve been having some trouble with it.
-
@Hydro_Harley At the moment, the only thing you can do is change the Graphics Quality in the Configuration window that opens when launching the game. Eventually, I will add more settings in game to turn off the water reflections, wakes, and other GPU intensive visual effects.
-
@Scott-Przybylski ok, looking forward to racing with you guys at some point.
-
@Hydro_Harley I've found that changing the resolution the game is running at helps raise frame rate, too
-
@CanYouFoush Yeah, good point, you can lower the resolution and run in full screen mode.
@Hydro_Harley What are your computer specs? CPU, memory, GPU? Is it a laptop or desktop?
-
@Scott-Przybylski ASUS desktop,
8 gig memory
Intel pentium G3240
Integrated graphics -
Had a great exhibition race 2, was blast racing with everyone!
A few takeaways from the exhibition that I thought I'd like to share:
-
Roostertail physics seem to be a little too strong atm. Especially towards the tail end of the roostertail as the physics seem to try to make the boat nosedive and makes the boat shift erratically. Also I believe the roostertail widens a bit too much towards as it goes on.
-
The server did a few funky things throughout the day but nothing to really worry about this early on in the games development.
-
Think we managed to find a bug as watch what happens towards the end of the final from 19:57 on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mvcu-qEWKtU&t=671s Like a magical black hole just instantly appeared and wrecked havoc on 3 boats.
Overall, it was an awesome day of racing and I'm stoked for the future of this game!
-
-
@PeytonHopp That is good to hear, sorry I couldn't make it.
-
Yeah, I figured there would need to be some tweaks to this, its hard to test out by myself.
-
I'm still trying to figure out why the server gets into a weird state sometimes, also tricky to debug. We may need to do a race with me hosting the server on my dev machine.
-
Ha, yeah I saw that in the video, I was scratching my head. Not sure what the heck happened there.
Hmmm, seems like youtube videos embedded with the time argument
t=
don't work. -
-
FYI, I've migrated the code/issues from Bitbucket to Gitlab: https://gitlab.com/skaughtx0r/HydroSim
I ran out of space on Bitbucket and Gitlab has a much higher quota for their free account.

Working on the Guntersville course. Need to fix a couple bugs with course loading, hopefully an update soon.
The pits are really far away from the course, I'll probably need to implement a course map, otherwise its easy to get lost, haha.
-
@Scott-Przybylski that would be a great idea. Lol. I think it was a mile and a half from the pits I think.
-
According to the telemetry from the Homestreet it was 1.5 miles from the pits to the course.
-
@CanYouFoush Wow that's insane! Wonder why the course was placed so far away?
