Merry Christmas! HydroSim v0.4.0.2
-
@kbest45 @PeytonHopp @CanYouFoush Thanks for the detailed bug reports! I'll be trying to address all the issues for the next release. I've already fixed the race standings sorting and the issues with the collision boxes being rendered.
-
@Scott-Przybylski do you have any thoughts on the camera view issue Nick is having? He just got a new wheel, so it may not be game related, but it seems odd the inputs seem to be changing mid race...
-
@kbest45 sounds odd, do they actually change to different buttons on the same wheel or does it just stop working?
-
I recently started putting issues into an issue tracker:
https://bitbucket.org/skaughtx0r/hydrosim/issues?milestone=0.5.0.0
Small updated, I started teaching myself how to use Blender for 3D modeling while working on new buoys.
So far I've gotten these more realistic looking triangle buoys done:
These were created in Blender by generating a high resolution pyramid, applying a cloth simulation to it and inflating it with a force field. I then created a low resolution model by shrink wrapping a sphere around the high resolution model. From there I
baked a normal map texture for the low res model from the high res one.I'm currently working on the same process for the new start/finish cylindrical buoys.

Looks great!

@Scott-Przybylski the bitbucket site is pretty cool, we can see there are lots of things to work on
Not to add to the pile....but the past couple time's we've been running 4-5 player heats there seems to be an issue with the server clock, this is really only an issue during the starting procedure as the clock will jump up randomly (i.e. counts to 26 seconds then jumps back to 29 seconds). Is this due to a latency or ping issue? Is the server trying to stay synced with the player(s) who have slower pings? Haven't seen this before, but we haven't had a starting clock in game either...When trying to nail the start, we have seen weird things happen such as the lap counter indicating a clean start but the clock not timing your lap or vice versa.
Also, when this is occurring we tend to see much faster lap times, thus the new phrase 'the server is hot'
Thanks again for all you are doing, the game is awesome and looks like it will be even more so in the near future

When the server is "hot" we tend to run lap speeds ranging anywhere from low 160's to 200+ mph.
-
Yeah, I restarted the server, it seems like the time synchronization gets worse over time. I need to add an issue for it, its definitely an annoying problem.
-
Just had a few laps where the synchronization issue made the clock run faster (gave me slower lap times) instead of the opposite. Never seen that before, at least not to any noticeable extent. Laps that would normally be about 155-156 mph were clocking in around 133-134.
-
@Ryan-Yates It was just happening to me too
-
Hey Scott, not meaning to sound impatient, but just asking about how the progress is going with the game.
Anything new that you've been working on that we can expect in the future or any updates to fix a few bugs?
Awesome that you've created the best hydroplane racing game ever and that it's just getting started!
-
@PeytonHopp No worries, I'll have an update soon. I made an attempt at fixing some of the server issues. It's hard to test locally, so I won't know whether or not they worked until I put it up on my server for you guys to test.
I just finished implementing a chat system. Right now I'm re-working the GUI to try and make the chat fit somewhere.
Other than that, there's the updated camera system and some other bug fixes.
-
@Scott-Przybylski we had 4 guys on tonight testing out the server and it was pretty delayed, the clock was jumping around 5-10 seconds at times. Any chance you can reset the server?
Also, are you still planning to release an update before the exhibition race on Saturday?
-
Yeah, I'll try and get the update out tomorrow.
