2010 Race 4, Spam on the Ohio

Postby craigmont on Sat Mar 06, 2010 10:24 pm

Congratulations to Chris Porten and the U-65 Miss Valvoline for a long-awaited, well-deserved UHL victory!

CP, man, you nailed it and drove a clean perfect race. You have been killing it lately. A couple yards to the right on Mission Bay and we'd be talking about back- to- back!

Warning: The season points battle is ON. 8)

More after I get out of this hellacious weekend of work.

Congrats CP! Not only did you win, but you just took over the High Points lead with that one. I unfortunately could not get a heat win, and with this format, you pretty much need at least 1 heat win to get into the final. I managed to win the consolation heat though and got into the final that way, only to have it pretty much end on the first turn of lap 2. The competition was pretty fierce, I thought John Steach was going to repeat, he was on fire through the prelim heats, but had a bad start in the final.

Oh, no worries mate! Everybody was just going for it! Besides, if I had done a better job on the start and my first couple of turns, I might not have been back there. It's tough luck for you too, having to try and hold lane 1 with no room to slide. If the leader does his job right (which this one did), the guys inside have to slow down or crash. And no one wants to slow down, you can't blame 'em.

I finally won a UHL race! I'm still smilling from ear to ear this afternoon. :D I'm also leading the points for the first time. It'll be hard to get it back from me once I get my new computer set up.

U-65 Miss Valvoline 2010 SPAM on the Ohio Champion

SPAM on the Ohio 3-6-10 copy.jpg

Congrats CP on your 1st UHL knack :!:
very strong day for the U-65 got a 2nd in the 1st flight and no one could beat him after that :!:
So like CraigMont pointed out a couple of feet over and we are talkin’ about 2 in a row… that is the 2nd Final in as many races that you have secured the lane you wanted and nailed the start, the 65 is really dialed in, like CP said it will be hard to take back the lead from him.
It will be just as difficult for him to hold back the SPAM, only a 44 point lead over the U-44, I find that numerology a bit symbolic :D :!:
5 races left that is a lot of heats of racing especially when your stoppin’ in Madison…
a whole lot can happen, Penalties can change a great day real quick & DNF’s are a killer, ask NEO, he is 2 DNF’s away from a 3 way battle for the lead, the U-8 is as dialed in as anyone in SD, only a big day away from bein’ right back in the thick of it…
it will be interesting to watch how the drop race really effects the outcome of the Championship…
CP has 2 monster races 1505 & 1560 a 1175 & right now his drop race is a 1094, CraigMont has a 1540, 1409, 1257, and his drop race is 1157…
it is easy to have a bad day you hope as a driver to not go below your drop race but you don’t want a bunch of races near your drop race, they might start all counting after 1 horrible day…
The SPAM like it or not is the most consistent boat in UHL the numbers prove it, Championships are won here in the prelims, win your prelims FINISH as well as you can in the Final and hopefully get a knack or 2 before the end of the year, that is what the SPAM does , fortunately for the rest of the field all but 1 final has been really rough for this team, El Spammo has not been scoring well in the Final Heats…
I am looking forward to these 2 guys going head to head those heats are going to be huge…
this points race will change as the season continues there are some of the best racers out here right behind them and all it takes is a DNF or a call and you don’t make a Final and score lousy in that heat, & then those drop races start counting…
CP has 320 Q points the U-44 has only 130 Q points So now that we put the 44’s #’s up against the best Qualifier in the League we may have finally found a weakness in the mighty SPAM camp, but CraigMont pointed it out himself to me so don’t get excited he will figure it out… last year the SPAM boat lost the chase by only 5 points, I am interested to see the difference in the SPAM & the Sum Mo’ Q points from 09’…
Enough of me talking about the chase lets get to SPAM on the Ohio…
D :!: Top Q & PR :!: Congrats it is not an easy feat with this comp.
U-44 3 Heat wins leading up to the final :!:
Racer X if he would have won the Final he would have been in the running “Mr. Madison” not that fortunate but 3 Heat Wins is still super impressive :!:
GA 2 Heat Wins and now 3rd in high points, heading back to SD, the course he won at in the A-Z Cup and scored 1470 on, another day like that and he is right in the hunt & this team is quite capable look out for the 26.
A 2 Heat Wins coming off a couple of huge TNH Championship knacks, he keeps stickin’ his nose right in the thick of things, if you draw the 112 you better nail your start.
JA Heat Win, always fast on the outside, you don’t want to get stuck behind & inside of the 57.
& LIL what’s up man, Heat Win if this guy would take some time and practice we would all be in trouble
last but not least my main muchacho NEO with a Conny Shot, you have been held down thus far but we all know better, we will see the Presents battling for the title before the end of this year.
Madison is a tough course and as more people learn the ins and outs it is gonna get tougher, I can’t wait to join you guys for a UHL race I just love those shiny silver knacks, can’t get enough of those on your sig-line…
Don’t forget I am teaching clutch start lessons next Sunday @ 5 on Mission Bay, come-get-some :D
Great racing everyone if I failed to mention your name, make it happen next race :D
I have said enough for 1 post…
Great to see everyone yesterday if it was only for a heat or 2, see you next week :!:

:!: UHL :!:

Isn't that during the LHQ?
