Not sure.

Could someone explain me why this is a penalty on the lead boat? This has happened a hundred times and it's always "slid out, no call."

The flippee doesn't have his boat turned by the apex, so after the apex he's still headed out into Lane 2's roostertail:

I don't care who the parties involved are (I certainly don't need Brian scoring any more points), I just want the rules understood and applied correctly. You're only obligated to leave 1 lane.

Well, I decided to take it into photoshop, by rule, you must leave a lane of 2 boat widths and Brian did just that. It's not easy to tell when you're just eyeing it, but that's almost as close as you can come.

I just couldn't hold it on the buoys tight enough to drive through such a tight lane.

Anyway, for future reference...

Scott, it would have been nice if you had taken the blame for the incident at the time and not let us make the wrong call. Now, I feel like I can't make calls because someone might critisize my decision. So, forget about asking me to be a judge because I WON'T make any more calls for a while.

I hope you are not being serious.

In the heat of the moment, Scott probably felt Brian pushed him to close to the bouys and Scotts measures to try to stay afloat flipped him over. I was not in the officals office at that time but I am sure more then one judge felt that Brian was at fault as well.

You should know by now that I take everything seriously. I won't be judging races for a while.

I'm not trying to criticise, just pointing out it takes some photoshopping to figure it out sometimes.

I would have taken the blame, but to me it wasn't obvious it was my fault, so I just kept my mouth shut and let the 3 or so judges figure it out.

I was just commenting on Craig's post, since he brought it up, I figured I'd take a screenshot and look at it in photoshop. Not trying to be critical, I've seen incidents like this go both ways, its up to the judges.

In Scott's picture...if you put the overlay on Brian's boat at the same time you see they will overlap..thus lane encroachment...

In response to greg's edit-- does that mean we havta stay in the middle of our lane? Technically if you just color in the lanes and not worry about adding it to either side of the picture-- Scott is in lane 1, Brian is in the inner most part of lane 2-- i just assumed a boat had to be 1 lane (28 feet) off the bouy-- so according to that you'd havta be leaving 35 feet between you and the bouy...

Time to call Noonan again!

Do we need a 7-foot space between boats, or 14?
